8800axl setup

Just got my 8800axl and despite easter I couldn't wait to have a go. My cunning plan is to leave my existing router and devices switched on, but disconnected the RJ11 from the wall socket, so that I can have a go with the 8800axl and my laptop.

Here's a bit of detail, but hopefully following the instructions...

Switched off laptop.
Unplugged ethernet cable.
Connected RJ11 to wall socket, ethernet cable to laptop and powered it up. DSL flashed a few times, stopped and flashed a few times, then solid. Internet light red.
Powered up laptop, then started firefox. No sign of quick start. Tried 192.168.1.254 but not found.
Repeated and the same.

Anyway at least my fallback plan worked - just unplugged RJ11 and re-connected laptop and we're back.

I must be doing something wrong...

Yeh - it took a call to the support line to help (closed until 10am Tuesday now though!).

Hopefully someone will help on here in the meantime - I cannot recall if the little booklet enclosed with the Billion has the Zen set up info. A quick google didn't help either.

Try this other forum: http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/board,5.0.html - you'll need to register, hopefully someone else can walk you through it before calling the support line on Tuesday.

Thanks for those pointers. The trouble with my system is that I can't get the 8800axl to respond at all, so no opportunity to mess with the configuration. The 8800axl does not respond to 192.168.1.254 at all. Maybe something needs to be rest in the network card, despite a power off and on, or maybe its something in firefox (tried chrome as well) that blocks access. Does the network cable from laptop to 8800axl hoave to be plugged into a particular port? Mine is just into port 1. Also, darn, must retry with another network cable - used the one out of the box...

I did have a recent problem where the page hung when trying to go to the routers homepage, I reset it and was able to go to it. Give support a call on Tuesday, where did you buy it from?

Just had a thought. To access my old, current router (netgear dgn1000) I use 192.168.0.1 whereas for 8800axl it will be 192.168.1.254
Is it possible that my laptop has some config stuff on it that will prevent it from seeing the new address for the router?

Is there a reset button on the back of the router? Something you need a paperclip to use? I cannot recall.

You could try deleting the internet cache and cookies and try the 192.168.1.254 address?
