Are you sure your model is a 7800N and not a 7800?

You can check the status page and under device information is listed the model number.

Thanks

Restart (ensuring Factory Settings button is selected) then Save Config and check again for the VPN option.
Thanks for the advice but result was the same.

I checked that the latest firmware was 1.06d on
http://www.billion.com/support/download ... ml#fd7800n

but 1.06e on Australian site

Yes, I saw that Ozzy firmware on a screenshot and wondered about that - went back to esupport to check and for the UK it's 1.06d.

Given that you seemed to have done everything right, it's probably time to raise a ticket with the Billion techs - it could be that the router is goosed :?:

Was the esupport site "under construction" when you did your initial upgrade or was it prior, although they seem to have still made provision for downloading the firmware upgrades.

Not sure if it's worth taking this OP's offer and starting afresh, although you will have to try and catch their attention.

Alternatively, you could contact esupport, explain the problem and ask them for the 1.06c which may be quicker.

Many thanks to all who have taken the trouble to reply and help. I sincerely appreciate it.

I tried a second time to update to 1.06d but still no VPN.
Despite the warnings not to do it I updated to 1.06e posted on the Oz website and now I have VPN. I can't see what differences there are apart from the VPN though except the time and wireless defaults were set to Australia.

It also depends on the remote connection upload and downstream here is a example.

7800N hosting VPN has upload 100kb and download 1400kb, so when you come to download off the VPN network your speeds will be limited to the upload on the 7800N which is 100kb. If you are uploading a file to VPN, the speed would be limited to the upload speed of the remote conenction.

I hope this helps explain the bandwidth limitations.
