7800dxl linked to Sky SR102

Post by Scoobs93 »

Hi.
I was using my 7800DXL in place of the SR101 but Sky moved me over to "Sky Fiber Lite" 2 weeks ago.
I'm currently just using the newly supplied SR102 which as many reports have said, is flakey with wifi around the house. No great range and drops out or off!!!
Is there any way to connect my 7800DXL to the 102 to give a better wifi range and better stability?
I have my Synology DS 213 plugged into the 7800 still, which I'd like to continue using as a video source for my TVs and iPad around the house.

Any thoughts or suggestions to a complete novice?

Thanks

In hope.......

1. Change the IP address of your Sky router to make sure it not the same as the Billion eg Sky 192.168.0.1 and Billion - 192.168.1.254 (they need to be on a different subnet)
2. Once done, plug a Ethernet connection from your Sky router to the EWAN port on the 7800DXL
3. Run through the quick start option on the Billion to setup a Ethernet connection >> obtain a IP address automatically
4. In the Sky router, DMZ the IP address assigned to the Billion (you can check the IP address under 'Status >> WAN')

Perfect.
Thanks again.
Are there any tweaks I can make to improve speeds or am I fixed with what comes down the line?
Currently getting 16.3 UL and 1.8DL Much better than ADSL but always happy to get more.

Thanks for the guidance.

As the SR102 is syncing with your DSL line, you won't be able to tweak the SNR etc to increase your downloads speeds.

If I now set up port forwarding rules on the Billion, will I be able to access my NAS using DNS. i.e. on the web from anywhere ?

You might be able to, you just need to make sure you have setup a DMZ rule on your Sky router for the WAN IP of the Billion, (as you are running double NAT)
