SNR margin not changing on stats page

Post by uttingj »

Hi,

I am new to the forum and have just taken receipt of a 7800nxl to replace an 8817 that will be bridged with rt-n66u. Main reason for purchase is to squeeze the max possible out of standard adsl from my ISP (BT).

Been with ISP for a month and am getting approx 6mb/s down and 0.3mb/s up. Line attenuation is very good, SNR margin downstream was 6 (now gone up to 10) SNR margin upstream was around 20 (now gone up to 31). Line seems pretty stable and I am assuming the SNR has increased due to my old modem being restarted a few times although I could be wrong.

I have tried adjusting the SNR of the 7800nxl and hitting apply, but the SNR margin on the stats page never seems to change. Should this value change? I have had the SNR set at -1, 1, 6, 7 and the SNR margin remains unchanged. Am I doing something wrong? I would like SNR margins of at least 6 down and 6 (lower if it remains stable).

Here are the current stats:
Mode ADSL_G.dmt
Traffic Type ATM
Status Up
Link Power State L0
Downstream Upstream
Line Coding (Trellis) On On
SNR Margin (dB) 10.4 31.0
Attenuation (dB) 17.0 12.0
Output Power (dBm) 19.9 11.9
Attainable Rate (Kbps) 10740 1384
Rate (Kbps) 8128 448
K (number of bytes in DMT frame) 255 15
R (number of check bytes in RS code word) 20 16
S (RS code word size in DMT frame) 1.00 1.00
D (interleaver depth) 64 4
Delay (msec) 16.00 8.00
INP (DMT symbol) 2.33 0.13
Super Frames 131745 131745
Super Frame Errors 0 0
RS Words 6996826 874565
RS Correctable Errors 32 0
RS Uncorrectable Errors 0 0
HEC Errors 0 0
OCD Errors 0 0
LCD Errors 0 0
Total Cells 33532274 0
Data Cells 766506 0
Bit Errors 0 0
Total ES 0 0
Total SES 0 0
Total UAS 37 37

If anyone can advise me that would be very much appreciated.

From looking at your stats you have maxed out your connection, as you seem to be connecting at ADSL_G.dmt (so 8mb max)

After you adjust the SNR and you see no change within the SNR downstream value, this could be because your ISP/DLM is overriding your SNR change

Thanks for the quick response. I was hoping I would be to override that, i guess not. The DLM has certainly increased the SNR margins since I first connected. Maybe I can speak to them to get it reset if possible. My main issue was the high SNR margin for upstream which is limiting my upload speed and is very frustrating.

Yes you can ask your ISP to reset the line profile to the normal 6db profile :D
