Help setting up a 7800DXL

Post by davidc »

I have two phone lines into my house and two wireless networks. One (a fibre line) is based around a Netgear Nighthawk x4 (R7500) the other (copper) standard on a Billion 7800NL. I have bought a 7800DXL and want to replace the 7800NL with it. I swapped over the 7800NL cables to the 7800DXL and plugged in an Ethernet cable to a laptop which does not have an Ethernet port but has a usb Type-C (Dell say this can be used with an Ethernet adapter). But was unable to talk to the 7800DXL using http://192.164.1.254.

Can anyone help me with this, please?. The laptop is linked also to the fibre/Netgear based network. Grateful for suggestions. Am I right that the 7800DXL does NOT come with a default ssid name and security password?

Thanks

When using UK firmware the default wireless SSID's is as follows

Billion-AP-2.4g
Billion-AP-5g

The default wireless security password is the MAC address listed underneath the device

I would suggest isolating your 7800DXL first and also your laptop, (so your laptop is only connected to the 7800DXL either by wireless or ethernet, and nothing else is connected to the 7800DXL)

Then configure the device to match your 7800NL, then deploy the device (add it to the network)

Thanks very much. In Windows 10, what is the easiest way to disable wireless connections so that only the 7800dxl--Ethernet cable--laptop is seen by the laptop? I want ultimately to use network 1 (laptop/netgear) for a fibre connection and network 2 (7800DXL/other pcs in house). So when I have set up the 7800dxl I will not use with my laptop and need to go back to the fibre network.

Re: Help setting up a 7800DXL - MAC address?

Post by davidc »

I can't see a code underneath the router called the MAC address. The numbers I see are: (ALL CHANGED) -

788-----6543

FC ID : G----H - 7800VDOX

S/N : 7VD3-----7383

Which of these is the MAC address, please?

The MAC address should start with either 600347 or 0004ed

Enable Flight mode, on your windows machine this will disable your wireless connection

Click on the 'Wireless' icon on the bottom right hand corner, to show the wireless network list at the bottom you will see flight mode, enabled it

Test a Ethernet connection between your 7800DXL and laptop, once setup and deployed disable flight mode to re-enable your wireless connection

Thanks so much. Exactly what I needed. With the code now identified maybe I can do the set up wirelessly.
