7800DXL No ISP after factory reset

Post by WirelessMan » Thu Sep 12, 2019 8:41 pm

2.4GHz wireless vanished for no reason so eventually I tried a factory reset and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz were fine. Obviously I had to set almost everything up again, it connects to incoming ADSL at the original speed but apparently not to the ISP (at least not to use anything). I have checked everything carefully, including trying loading the original setup from the back-up file but to no avail. I am using the old 7800N for the time being.

Need to three things from you,

1. Screen of the 'Status >> WAN' page
2. Capture of your system log once the connection has failed.
3. Who is your ISP

I have seen this before with other customers, when the incorrect broadband username and password is entered

The issue is with the broadband username and password you set within the router, hence you are getting a 172 WAN IP which points to the BT whole sale page, you need to adjust your broadband username and password within the router, to get a proper valid WAN IP

You can also see the same problem reported by others (not using a Billion router)

Thank you. I suspect the older(more-used) 7800DXL routers might be clinging onto a previous logins from previous owners. I might try another factory reset to see if I can shake it. Certainly this has happened with an old Netgear modem-router which required several resets but is fine now!

Just a post-script. After careful factory resets both routers connected to the ISP but without data exchange. Authentication was set to "Auto" but when I changed it to "Chap everything sprung into life.
