Bandwidth usage math

Post by new27800N »

I must be missing something here and I hope someone can (politely) put me right.

I get the bandwidth usage for WAN and it shows 2.9MB/sec received. I then look at the LAN usage which has eth2 and wIO active but hardly anything on the latter but 47.3KB/sec on the former. Where has the rest of that WAN activity gone?

This could be traffic to and from the ISP (checking if your IP is still alive, checking the connection is healthy)/other cross talk, or bots scanning your IP

Possibly but the volume coming in is in the order of 100 times the stated consumption within the internal network! I’ll keep investigating.....
