7800DXL and WPA2 (Krack) vulnerability

Post by peterb99 »

Probably OTT to worry but I assume there will be no 7800DXL etc. patch for this 'media panicware' (Krack WPA2)?

Seems from https://www.krackattacks.com (search text in page "What if there are no security updates for my router?") that Windows 10 and other client OS updates are likely to obviate the need for a router firmware fix?

I don't have the expertise to know this for sure - it would be really helpful to have it confirmed by someone who does!

We are waiting for official confirmation from Broadcom, once we have it will post a update for our routers.

FWIW, this page summarises which devices are already / going to be patched:

https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/s ... erability/

It says "Microsoft quietly fixed the KRACK vulns in the October 10th Patch Tuesday." and "According to an article at AppleInsider:"Sources inside Apple not authorized to speak on behalf of the company has told AppleInsider that the patch to remove hardware susceptibility was included in a "previous" beta of the current range of operating systems —meaning a release before Monday's batch. However, our source specifically noted that AirPort hardware, including the Time Machine, AirPort Extreme base station, and AirPort Express does not have a patch available —and was not certain if one was in progress."

I am still unclear. If my Windows 10 machine is patched but my router is not, am I vulnerable to Krack or not?

Your phones, TV, DVR, lights? - whatever else you have connected to router not using Windows 10. And then through them someone can get access to network (but maybe not Windows 10 PC?).
Best to have WPA2 code in router fixed and then that's it, everything on wifi network protected.
