Best settings for 7800DXL and BT Broadband (ADSL)

Hi,

I'm setting up my new 7800DXL with BT Broadband. I live in a very rural area, so BT (or Satellite) are my only options. I've just had a new line installed at my new build property. I've been using a 3G USB modem with the Billion, and that has been great whilst waiting for the BT line to arrive.

I've been searching for the best settings for ADSL (the max speed I can theoretically get is 8Mbit, at the moment I get 3.8Mbit down) on the Billion. There seems to be conflicting information on a few things on the web - like what username and password to use and if any other settings make a difference.

Could some kind person also using BT confirm I have the correct settings in place? I've not tried SNR tweaks yet as I'm still in the 10 day 'training' period for my new line. I can get a connection with the following settings, so I'm assuming they are correct - but just want to be sure.

DSL settings:
Username: bthomehub@btbroadband.com
Password: <empty>
Connection Type PPPOA
VPI/VCI 0/38
Encapsulation vcmux

Any suggestions (outside of SNR tweaks) for any other boxes I should tick? PhyR is enabled already.

Thanks and regards,
JonathanN

Hi

Your credentials and VPI/VPC will not make any difference to the speed you get, if they are wrong it will not work at all, and if they are right it will work. So if you can connect to the net okay those settings are all okay.

PhyR isn't supported by anyone as far as I know so having it enabled will make no difference. As long as you have ADSL2+ selected as one of the options it will pick that when it connects and that should give the fastest sync speed.

The only way of influencing the line speed (apart from ensuring all your wiring is in good order) is to use SNR tweaks, but you may want to wait to see how stable the line is currently and let the BT kit optimise the settings for your line before you start tweaking.

Regards

Phil

I had kept PhyR enabled and it really did make no difference. However, thanks Phil for the guidance I was stuck with it.
