Hi Guys,
Doubt this will get any attention as the new 7800's are out but here goes I have it connected to FTTC Sky and every half and hour now it renews the ip but the ip stays the same I have tried both firmwares but nothing still the same and I have BT coming out but on the openreach and sky router all is fine log of router below.

Apr 1 16:32:34 DHCP client: Sending renew...
Apr 1 16:32:34 DHCP client: Lease of 151.xxx.xxx.xxx obtained, lease time 3600
Apr 1 17:02:34 DHCP client: Sending renew...
Apr 1 17:02:34 DHCP client: Lease of 151.xxx.xxx.xxx obtained, lease time 3600

Sky have a 60 minute lease time for their IP addresses using MER and it will keep the same IP address almost indefinitely unless the router is switched off for more than an hour.

The way DHCP works is that it will start to try and renew the lease after 30 minutes (half the lease time) which is why the message appears in the log every 30 minutes. It's perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.

Hi simon194,
That has not happened before only recently and even if it's normal thats no good to me as I have something that needs a constant connection, sky setup for it does not have this issue so there must be something that billion can do and it seems they are looking into it.

It has been this way for as long as I've had Sky fibre and, as I said earlier, it's the way any DHCP-based network works. The connection won't drop unless the router fails to renew the lease within the 30 minutes after it sends renew requests, so for all intents it's a constant connection.

The Sky router does exactly the same but it doesn't log it to it's internal system log but can be logged via an SNMP server.
This is what the Sky router logged to my SNMP server:

20/11/2012 08:13 192.168.xxx.xxx Sending renew...
20/11/2012 08:13 192.168.xxx.xxx Received valid DHCP lease of 94.xxx.xxx.xxx from server

20/11/2012 08:43 192.168.xxx.xxx Received valid DHCP lease of 94.xxx.xxx.xxx from server
