IPv6 support on 8200N

Post by simon194 »

Is IPv6 support planned for the 8200N?

There was a problem with my connection last night so I had to reinstate the Openreach modem and Sky router just in case I needed to contact Sky. Anyways I was looking through the syslog and I spotted a number of entries checking if the router supported IPv6 so it got me thinking that Sky must be testing or implementing IPv6 on their network.

So what gives? Are you telling me the 8200N doesn't support IPV6  I've just upgraded to Sky Fibre and I too don't want to use their crappy router. Although after doing a lot of searching around regarding my current Netgear DGND3700v1 router it turns out the not only does the firmware not support MER 1483 and DHCP 61, but it also doesn't support IPV6. It appears Netgear have abandoned DGND3700v1. I can't even get any 3rd party firmware so it's pretty much useless for Sky Fibre.

Having done some research it seems Billion's 8200N router is the one that'll work sweet for an all-in-one solution. But then I read this! Are you telling me that there's NO' IPV6 support for the 8200N? It's a no brainer that Sky will impliment the IPV6 as soon as humanly possible, and when they do it'll mean if I bought the 8200N it to like my DGND3700v1 will be useless. Or is their a firmware update that can give it support? If so why didn't netgear release a firmware update for the DGND3700v1 to address the lack of IPV6 support?

Cheers Ian

The 8200N doesn't support IPv6. I assume it will need a firmware update like the 7800N did ages ago.
